We build software where the person is upstream

Small tools, made calmly.

Upstream is the source a tool draws from, never the thing it draws out of the person using it. A forest of small, calm, self-contained tools, each one downstream of somebody’s actual work.

What that means in practice is short. A Collectedly tool does not chase you, does not count your streak, and does not hold the door when you try to leave. What you make in it is yours: on your disk, in a format you can open without us, crossing to anyone else only because you decided it should.

  A word processor for the netbook in your closet. That machine is not too slow to write on. Writing never got heavier; the software did.
